Championship wins help charities win big at fundraising

Love it, or hate it, football is something that millions of people across the globe are passionate about. We’re only in July and already 2016 has seen some real underdogs take home trophies.

In May, we watched with baited breath as Leicester City won the Premier League title, with bookies rating their chances at 5,000-1. After Leicester’s shock victory their popularity increased, the amount of people searching for them on Google soared, and official merchandise was selling out in shops across the country.

eSolidar successfully launched an auction in collaboration with Teenage Cancer Trust, for a Leicester City FC shirt signed by the team. This was viewed over 5800 times and raised a staggering £8000.

Speaking about winning the auction, Martyn the lucky bidder said, I have been a Leicester City supporter for the last 56 years, since I was 11 years old and was a season ticket holder until I moved to Holland. I now live most of the year on Curacao where I am in the happy position of being able to watch virtually all of Leicester’s games, both home and away.  Although obviously not a teenager any more, it is a cause close to my heart, as I have recently been successfully operated on for colon cancer.’ 

Last week also saw the final of the UEFA Euro 2016, with the home country France taking on Portugal. After a tense match, with Portugal’s star player Ronaldo being carried off and having a moth land on his face, they went on to win 1-0 in extra time.

eSolidar once again successfully launched an auction in partnership with Associação Paws Inn Pet Steps who help train assistance dogs, guide dogs as well as training and boarding services for family pets.

With the celebration of Portugal’s success still going strong, the auction raised over £3041 and brought more awareness to a truly deserving charity.

With so much passion and love for a game, it’s important that we spread that to charities to help those less fortunate than us.
